Issues

Rachel Hunt is running for Lt. Governor to help make North Carolina a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

Rachel Hunt’s priorities are investing in our public schools, expanding access to health care, and helping our local businesses thrive.

  • Fighting for Women, Children, and Families

I’m proud to have started my family right here in North Carolina. As a mom who has faced childbirth complications and raised two kids in this state, and as an advocate for domestic violence victims, I understand the challenges North Carolina women, children, and families are facing. The ongoing maternal healthcare crisis impacts all women and disproportionately impacts Black Women. Childcare must be more affordable. It’s well past time for North Carolina’s Women, Children, and Families to have an advocate in the Lt. Governor’s office, and I’ll be that advocate.

  • Making Healthcare More Affordable

As a State Senator, I am proud of our bipartisan progress in expanding Medicaid and providing affordable healthcare to more than 600,000 hardworking North Carolinians. As Lt. Governor, I’m dedicated to building on this progress by improving healthcare access in every corner of North Carolina, reducing prescription drug costs, and ensuring that no one has to choose between their health and their wallet.

  • Defending the Right to Reproductive Healthcare

Everyone should have the right to make decisions about their healthcare in consultation with their doctor. The government should not be involved. Unfortunately, when it comes to women’s bodies, MAGA politicians in Raleigh care more about control than improving the quality of life for mothers and children. That’s why, as a State Senator, I’ve voted against their attempts to eliminate freedoms North Carolina women have had for more than 50 years. I support and trust women to make their own decisions. Further, I support making maternal life-saving measures safe and legal. I will continue to stand up for reproductive rights and fight for access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare.

  • Supporting North Carolina’s Small Businesses

As a small business owner, I firmly believe that small businesses are the backbone of our community. As Lt. Governor, my priority will be to foster an environment where local entrepreneurs can thrive and create jobs. I’ll support access to broadband internet, which is essential for economic growth and equity, especially in the rural corners of this state. I'm committed to bridging the digital divide to ensure every corner of our state can participate in the digital economy. Let's invest in our small businesses, expand broadband access, and champion economic opportunities for all North Carolinians, no matter their zip code.

  • Standing with Rural North Carolina

I spent most of my childhood on a North Carolina farm, so I understand the unique challenges that our rural communities face. Working in the fields, taught me the value of hard work, resilience, and community. As your Lt. Governor, I'm committed to standing up for rural areas, ensuring they have a strong voice in the state government. Together, we will champion economic opportunities, access to quality education, and the good, affordable healthcare that rural North Carolinians deserve.

  • Keeping our Communities Safe

As a mom, I'm dedicated to making North Carolina a safer place for our families. As Lt. Governor, I’ll prioritize common-sense red flag laws to reduce crime and protect our kids from gun violence, and I’ll support our law enforcement officers as they work tirelessly to keep our neighborhoods safe. Working together can create a stronger, safer, more nurturing North Carolina for everyone.

  • Prioritizing Quality Education

Supporting North Carolina’s public schools is a part of my DNA. My Grandmother and Mother were proud public school teachers who understood the difference a good teacher makes. My Dad was the Education Governor who led the charge for Smart Start and Raising Teacher Pay to the National Average. When Republicans go after public education in this state, especially in our rural communities, I fight back. As a State Senator, I’ve voted against their attempts to bankrupt our public schools and send our taxpayer dollars to unproven and unaccountable private schools. I’ll do the same as Lt. Governor.

  • Protecting the Environment

North Carolina's natural treasures are precious and must be protected — from our mountains in the west to our coast down east and everywhere in between. As Lt. Governor, I’ll work across the aisle, as I’ve always done, to protect our environment and ensure future generations continue to live among the natural beauty in the state we love.

  • Securing Our Democracy

From passing gerrymandered maps to making it harder for all eligible voters to make their voices heard at the ballot box, the supermajority in Raleigh wants a North Carolina where it’s easier to cheat and harder to vote. That’s wrong. As a member of the legislature, I voted against their attempts to block access to the ballot box. As Lt. Governor, I will fight back and push for real change. I will remove barriers to the ballot box. I will ensure that elections remain free, fair, and secure.

  • Keeping our Promise to Our Veterans

As Lt. Governor, I will be wholeheartedly committed to supporting our veterans who have bravely served our nation. It's essential that we not only honor their sacrifices but also ensure a smooth transition back home. I will work tirelessly to help veterans access affordable housing. As a member of the Board of Community Colleges, I’ll work to connect them with world-class job training programs. Our veterans deserve the best opportunities, and I'm dedicated to making that a reality.
